Director Roger Wilkes

Our Summer School is held in the beautiful setting of The University of Cumbria in the heart of the English Lake District. We welcome most warmly new participants from anywhere in the world. We have a strong team of tutors and a high staff to student ratio with opportunities to sing or specialise in recorder, viol or lute playing. There are plenty of opportunities for other types of early wind instruments.

Singing in chamber choir and in smaller groups including one to a part is a feature of the week as well as large group sessions in the evenings and late evening informal madrigal sessions. Recorder and viol players and lutenists are catered for with their own specialist tutors.

Reports about Recent Summer Schools have been compiled on to the one page and if you would like to read what some recent participants have written do follow the link School reports.  Photographs of the musical banquet at the 2007 Summer School have been added as a slide show; just follow the link below for a sense of what it is like. 2007 was our last year with Clive Walkley and the first one at which Margaret Westlake joined the team.

For those of you not familiar with the English Lake District here is a link to the Cumbria tourist office and also to a set of pictures taken mostly around Borrowdale.

Summer School 2008 is now again over subscribed and there are no more places for singers. If you play recorders or viols we may be able to fit you in which case do contact Roger Wilkes by phone or email ASAP before completing an application.
